The University Section Club is a non-profit UC Berkeley support group that was founded in 1927. Among the many services offered by the Section Club to international students is an Equipment Loan Center which allows foreign students and scholars to borrow basic household goods during their stay at the University of California at Berkeley.

Equipment Loan Center

Any international student or scholar, his or her spouse, and their children may borrow from the Equipment Loan Center. Two international single students or scholars living together may also borrow, however, each student must pay $8. All borrowers must show proof of eligibility at the Equipment Center. All visits should be made during the first semester after the student or scholar's arrival.

Hours

• June: 1st, 3rd & 5th Wed, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
• July - 3rd week of September: every Wed, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
• October - May: 1st & 3rd Wed, 12:30 PM - 3:30 PM
• Closed the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day

A fee of $10 is required for the first visit; $3 for the second visit. No additional visits are permitted. All visits should be during the first semester of the visitor’s arrival.

Borrowed equipment must be returned in clean and reusable condition to the Equipment Center at the end of the visitor’s enrollment at UC Berkeley. BORROWED EQUIPMENT IS NOT TO BE PASSED ON TO FELLOW INTERNATIONAL VISITORS.

Suggested items for borrowing are listed below. All items are subject to availability. Limit one per household unless otherwise specified.

• Appliances, electrical (toaster, iron, etc.)
• Bedspread
• Blanket, pillow
• Bowls, mixing/serving (2 per household)
• Coffee pot
• Colander
• Cream pitcher/sugar bowl
• Cutting board
• Cutlery tray
• Dish drainer, draining board
• Knives, 1 large & 1 small
• Pans, baking: bread, cake, etc. (3 per household)
• Pans, frying (1 large, 1 small per household)
• Pot, large with lid
• Saucepans, (1 large, 1 small per household)
• Tea Kettle
• Teapot
• Tools, kitchen (7 per household)
• Towels, kitchen (2 per household)

The following items are available to borrow per household member:

• Coffee mug
• Dishes (set of dinner plate, salad plate, bread/butter plate, soup bowl, cup and saucer)
• Flatware (set of knife, fork, soup spoon, and teaspoon)
• Glasses (1 large, 1 small)
• Sheets and Pillowcases (King and Queen -- only 1 set per couple)
• Towels (Set of bath, hand, and washcloth)

This is a non-profit voluntary service, so all contributions are gratefully accepted.
